HeartCode® PALS Online

American Heart Association Blended Learning with Cypress Education

HeartCode® PALS Online is the American Heart Association’s blended-learning Pediatric Advanced Life Support course for healthcare professionals who manage—or may participate in the management of—seriously ill or injured pediatric patients.

The program combines flexible, self-paced online learning with a required hands-on skills session. The current HeartCode® PALS course incorporates science from the 2025 AHA Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

How the Course Works

1. Complete HeartCode® PALS Online

Students begin with the American Heart Association’s adaptive online learning program. HeartCode® PALS personalizes the learning path based on the student’s performance and self-reported confidence, helping each learner move efficiently toward mastery. The course includes self-directed content, probing questions, and cognitive assessment activities.

Access to the PALS Provider Manual eBook is included within the online course.

2. Complete Your Hands-On Skills Session

After successfully completing the online portion, students must complete a hands-on PALS skills session with an AHA PALS Instructor or other AHA-approved HeartCode® skills-testing method. The online course alone does not provide a PALS course completion card.

Your Cypress Education skills session gives you the opportunity to apply the concepts learned online through hands-on practice, team-based scenarios, and skills testing.

3. Earn Your AHA PALS Provider Card

After successfully completing both portions of the blended-learning program, eligible students receive their American Heart Association PALS Provider course completion card.

What You’ll Learn

HeartCode® PALS prepares healthcare professionals to recognize and manage pediatric respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies. Course objectives include:

  • Performing high-quality CPR according to AHA BLS recommendations
  • Recognizing pediatric patients who require immediate intervention
  • Functioning effectively as part of a high-performance resuscitation team
  • Differentiating respiratory distress from respiratory failure
  • Providing early interventions for respiratory emergencies
  • Recognizing compensated versus hypotensive shock
  • Providing early interventions for pediatric shock
  • Differentiating stable from unstable pediatric arrhythmias
  • Applying appropriate treatment for arrhythmias
  • Implementing post–cardiac arrest management

The PALS program also reinforces a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, BLS, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics through simulated pediatric emergencies.

Who Should Take HeartCode® PALS?

HeartCode® PALS is intended for healthcare professionals who direct or participate in the management of respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients.

This course is particularly appropriate for:

  • Paramedics and advanced EMS professionals
  • Emergency department nurses
  • Pediatric nurses
  • Physicians
  • Physician associates
  • Nurse practitioners
  • Respiratory therapists
  • Critical care and intensive care personnel
  • Pediatric emergency and transport teams
  • Other clinicians who require an AHA PALS Provider card for employment or professional credentialing

Why Choose HeartCode® PALS?

Pediatric emergencies demand rapid assessment, organized decision-making, strong teamwork, and confident clinical intervention.

HeartCode® PALS allows healthcare professionals to complete the cognitive portion of training at their own pace while preserving the hands-on practice and skills validation that are essential to advanced resuscitation training.

The adaptive online format is particularly valuable for experienced clinicians because the learning pathway continually adjusts based on the student's demonstrated knowledge and confidence.

Why Train with Cypress Education?

At Cypress Education, our goal is to move beyond memorizing an algorithm.

We want providers to understand the clinical reasoning behind the intervention, recognize deterioration early, communicate effectively with their team, and confidently apply PALS principles when caring for a critically ill or injured child.

Our hands-on session bridges the gap between online knowledge and real-world patient care through practical skills, team dynamics, and realistic pediatric resuscitation scenarios.

Learn online. Train hands-on. Perform when it matters most.
