The American Heart Association Heartsaver® Total – First Aid CPR AED course provides comprehensive training in first aid, CPR, and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Cypress Education offers this course using the American Heart Association’s convenient blended-learning format. Students complete the Heartsaver® Total online course at their own pace and then attend a hands-on skills session with an American Heart Association instructor to demonstrate the lifesaving skills they learned.

This format combines the convenience of online education with the practical, hands-on experience needed to build real-world confidence.

The current Heartsaver® Total course has been updated to reflect the 2025 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

How the Blended Course Works

Step 1 — Complete Heartsaver® Total Online

Students begin by completing the official American Heart Association Heartsaver® Total – First Aid CPR AED Online course.

The self-directed online program allows you to work through the training on your own schedule from a compatible computer or device.

The online course includes interactive learning activities, instructional videos, real-life demonstrations, and knowledge checks designed to reinforce important lifesaving concepts.

The online portion is approximately 3 hours, although completion time may vary by student.

Step 2 — Attend Your Cypress Education Skills Session

After completing the online course, students attend a hands-on skills session with a Cypress Education American Heart Association instructor.

During this session, you will practice and demonstrate essential skills such as:

• High-quality CPR
• AED operation
• Choking response
• First aid assessment
• Emergency response skills

Our goal is not simply to help you complete a certification requirement. We want you to leave training with the confidence to act when someone needs your help.

Step 3 — Receive Your AHA Course Completion Card

After successfully completing both the online course and required hands-on skills session, students receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED Course Completion Card, valid for two years.
